Thiruvananthapuram: Actor Shweta Menon has announced resignation from the post of president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA).
The announcement was made during AMMA's general body meeting held on Sunday. Details regarding the reasons behind her decision have not yet been officially disclosed.
Shweta Menon took charge as AMMA president in August 2025, becoming the first woman to head the organisation in its history. Her election, along with the appointment of Cuckoo Parameswaran as general secretary, was widely seen as a landmark moment for the Malayalam film industry's artists' body.
During her tenure, Menon repeatedly stressed the importance of member welfare, safety and transparency within the organisation. She had also spoken about rebuilding trust and strengthening communication among members.
AMMA has faced internal turmoil in recent months
The resignation comes at a time when AMMA has been dealing with a series of internal disputes and public controversies.
In recent months, disagreements among members of the executive committee have drawn attention, with allegations and counter-allegations exposing divisions within the organisation.
