Severe weather continues to wreak havoc across Jammu and Kashmir, with incessant rainfall since Monday leading to flash floods, overflowing rivers, and a deadly landslide.

Actor R. Madhavan has found himself stranded in Leh after the region’s airport was shut down owing to relentless rainfall and poor weather conditions.
In a story shared on Instagram, Madhavan said, “End of August and we already have snow on the mountain tops in Ladakh. I am stuck in Leh due to the airport being shut down because of incessant rain over the last four days. Every time I came to shoot in Ladakh, like in August 2008, during a three-day schedule at Pangong Tso lake, we had to evacuate due to sudden snowfall...”
Despite being stranded, the actor appeared to remain in good spirits, expressing admiration for the region’s natural beauty even in challenging weather.
“Still, it’s breathtakingly beautiful here. I hope the skies clear up soon and planes can land so I can get back home,” he added.

In Leh, a crucial zone for both tourism and defence operations, operations remain severely affected. Due to its location in the Himalayas, the region is highly sensitive to weather disruptions, with even brief spells of rain or cloud cover reducing visibility and rendering the airport runway unusable.
The Ravi River breached its banks in Kathua after excess water was released from the Ranjit Sagar Dam, while the Chenab River rose above the danger mark in Doda. In response to the worsening conditions, authorities have shut down schools and advised residents to avoid venturing near water bodies.
Meanwhile, a massive landslide near the Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra on Tuesday claimed at least 30 lives and injured several others. Rescue and relief operations are currently underway, with emergency teams working around the clock.
