Emma Stone received nominations for best actress and best picture at the 2026 Academy Awards for Bugonia, marking a significant milestone in her career and in Oscar history. The best picture nomination comes from her role as a producer on the film, while the acting nod recognises her lead performance.

With these two nominations, the 37-year-old actor has now accumulated seven Oscar nominations, making her the second-youngest person and the youngest woman ever to reach that number. The only person to achieve seven nominations at a younger age was Walt Disney, who did so in 1936 at the age of 34. Previously, the record among women was held by Meryl Streep, who earned her seventh nomination at 38.

Stone has also become the first woman to be nominated twice for producing and acting in the same film on two separate occasions. Frances McDormand achieved the feat once with Nomadland in 2021. Stone first followed with Poor Things in 2023 and has now repeated it with Bugonia, underscoring her growing influence behind the camera as well as on screen.

Of her previous five Oscar nominations, Stone has won twice, both for best actress, for La La Land in 2016 and Poor Things in 2023. Only three women in Oscar history have won the best actress award three or more times: Katharine Hepburn, Meryl Streep and Frances McDormand.

In the best actress category this year, Stone is nominated alongside Jessie Buckley for Hamnet, Rose Byrne for If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Kate Hudson for Song Sung Blue, and Renate Reinsve for Sentimental Value. Bugonia is also competing for best picture against films including F1, Frankenstein, Hamnet, Marty Supreme, One Battle After Another, The Secret Agent, Sentimental Value and Sinners.

The film received additional nominations for best adapted screenplay and best original score, further strengthening its presence at this year’s Oscars. Stone’s dual recognition highlights her rare ability to shape projects creatively while continuing to deliver critically acclaimed performances, reinforcing her place among the defining talents of her generation.
