Sajeesh also shared some behind-the-scenes insights about the film’s production design

Eko, written by Bahul Ramesh and directed by Dinjith Ayathan, was a huge hit in theatres and continues to enjoy success on OTT platforms. The mystery-thriller stars Sandeep Pradeep, Vineeth, Saurabh Sachdeva, Ashokan, Binu Pappu, Narain, and Biyana Momin from Meghalaya in lead roles. Sajeesh Thamarassery served as the film’s art director and recently shared an interesting anecdote about a mistake in the film.
Sajeesh revealed the detail while speaking with RJ Sandeep on Club FM’s The Crew Club. The error, which went largely unnoticed by audiences, occurs in a scene where Sandeep Pradeep’s character, Pius, is writing a story. Sajeesh mentioned that it was first pointed out by a YouTube channel.

“I mentioned a YouTube channel earlier, didn’t I? My dear, in this day and age, if we don’t pay attention to these things, it can become a big issue. There’s a scene where Pius writes a story on a mat, then lifts the mat, tucks the paper inside a book, folds it, and goes to sleep. That channel creator asked viewers to pause and zoom in on the moment he lifts the mat and puts the paper inside the book. He said, ‘This is a print from a magazine in February 2025 — they could have paid more attention to this,’” Sajeesh explained.
He added, “What he said is true. But to catch such tiny details, we need more time than we usually have. Even for Mlaathi Chettathi’s house, I, as the art director, start working on the set 19 days before shooting begins.”

Sajeesh also shared some behind-the-scenes insights about the film’s production design. The dogs that appear dead after being shot are not real, the house that looks like granite is actually made of fibre, and the large tree Pius climbs was constructed by joining branches from different trees. To indicate the time period, props such as powder tins, kashayam (herbal medicine) bottles, and old calendars were used, and small details — like melted wax on top of a Tiger Balm container — were carefully added.
