One emotional scene in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has viewers rewatching the ending for hidden clues. Could Peter Parker's biggest loss finally be reversed?

Warning: Major spoilers ahead for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’.
The biggest talking after ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ isn’t a surprise villain or an explosive post-credit scene, it’s a quiet moment between Peter Parker and Ned Leeds that could change everything going forward.

Throughout the film, Peter continues to live with the consequences of Doctor Strange’s spell from ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’. No one remembers who Peter Parker is, including his closest friends, Ned and MJ. Forced to keep his distance, Peter even introduces himself under the alias “Maynard” whenever he runs into familiar faces.
That changes during the film’s emotional ending.
While buying flowers for Aunt May, Peter unexpectedly meets Ned again. Their interaction begins like every other awkward reunion, but Peter instinctively reaches out for their old secret handshake. Ned unconsciously completes the handshake, almost as if his body remembers what his mind has forgotten. As the routine ends, he quietly says, “Peter,” hinting that something deep inside him has broken through Strange’s spell.

The film never confirms whether Ned has fully regained his memories, but the scene strongly suggests the spell may not have erased Peter completely.
Instead, it may have buried those memories beneath years of emotional connection and habit. If that's true, the MCU could be setting up Peter’s eventual reunion with the people who mattered most.
That possibility becomes even more interesting when it comes to MJ
Earlier in the film, Peter believes a kiss has helped MJ remember him, only to discover she was actually Jean impersonating her. The heartbreaking twist leaves the question unanswered, could genuine love really overcome the spell?
The final scenes subtly tease that idea. As Ned appears to remember Peter, MJ is shown sitting alone on their old school rooftop, holding the necklace Peter once gave her. She doesn’t remember why it matters, but she can’t let it go either.
