Tom Holland-starrer ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is set to return to theatres with additional footage, according to Variety. The makers have not yet announced the release date for the re-release. 

The superhero film, which hit theatres on July 31, has grossed 2.49 billion USD at the domestic box office. It currently ranks as the third highest-grossing movie of all time, behind 2009’s ‘Avatar’, which earned 2.92 billion USD, and 2019’s ‘Avengers: Endgame’. It is ahead of 2022’s ‘Avatar: The Way of Water’ and 1994’s ‘Titanic’.

The film has so far collected 950.6 million USD in North America. Crossing the $1 billion mark at the domestic box office would make it the first film to achieve the milestone. However, Variety reported that the target appeared out of reach before the planned re-release.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ also set a new benchmark in India with its theatrical opening, surpassing ‘Avengers: Endgame’ to record the biggest opening day for a non-Indian film in the country.

According to Variety, the film grossed Rs 72.44 crore on its first day in India. Nearly 1 million moviegoers reportedly watched the film on its opening Thursday.

The film continued its strong run through the opening weekend. At PVR Inox alone, it grossed more than Rs 135 crore, while its four-day extended opening weekend collection stood at Rs 328.5 crore across India. Within four days of its release, the film became the fourth highest-grossing Hollywood release in the Indian market.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh also reported that the film collected more than Rs 20 crore on Monday, August 3.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ follows Tom Holland’s Peter Parker as he attempts to rebuild his life after a spell causes his friends and family to forget his identity. The screenplay has been written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.

The cast also includes Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Jacob Batalon, Mark Ruffalo, Tramell Tillman and Florence Pugh.
