The much-awaited re-release of the iconic Malayalam movie ‘Manichitrathazhu’ is set to captivate audiences once again with its 4K visual enhancement. Matinee Now and E4 Entertainment will bring this timeless classic back to theatres on August 17, marking one of Mollywood's grandest re-releases.

Directed by Fazil and originally released in 1993, ‘Manichitrathazhu’ has a stellar cast including Mohanlal, Suresh Gopi, Shobana, Thilakan, Nedumudi Venu, Innocent, Sudheesh, KPAC Lalitha, and other Malayalam cinema legends.

Renowned for its gripping storyline and exceptional performances, ‘Manichitrathazhu’ continues to enthral generations. The film's remastering in 4K Atmos using advanced technologies promises an unforgettable cinematic experience for Malayalam movie enthusiasts.

Under Fazil's direction, the psychological-ghost story unfolds with Shobana's award-winning portrayal of dual roles—Ganga and Nagavalli—earning her accolades, including the National Award for Best Actress. The film itself received National and State Awards for Best Popular Film in 1993.

The impact of ‘Manichitrathazhu’ transcended regional boundaries, inspiring remakes in Kannada as ‘Apthamitra’, ‘Chandramukhi’, in Tamil and Telugu, and in Hindi as ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’, all achieving blockbuster success.

Known for its timeless comedy scenes and memorable climax, ‘Manichitrathazhu’ remains a favourite among audiences and a frequent subject of discussions and memes on social media.

Music by MG Radhakrishnan, background score by Johnson, and lyrics by Bichu Tirumala, Madhu Muttam, and Vali complement the masterful cinematography by Venu and editing by TR Shekhar. Produced under Swargachitra Studio, the film's re-release is eagerly anticipated, promising to reignite the magic that once mesmerised theatres across Kerala.

Preparations for the re-release of other classics such as 'Kaalapani', 'Valyettan', 'Devasuram', 'Aaram Thampuran', and '1921' are being undertaken by Matinee Now.

The Mohanlal movie 'Devadoothan' is set for a re-release as well, with 4K editing and DI (Digital Intermediate) work already completed. Producer Siyad Kokker has stated that the film is intended to hit theatres within the next two to three months.
