Bollywood actor Bhumi Pednekar has hit back at the growing assumption that significant weight loss is only achievable through medical intervention, revealing that her recent transformation was actually triggered by a severe health battle.

Speaking on a fitness podcast, Pednekar expressed her frustration with the modern mindset surrounding weight. The actor, who famously gained 30kg for her debut in Dum Laga Ke Haisha, explained that people often overlook a decade of hard work and disciplined lifestyle choices in favour of more scandalous theories.

The Impact of Illness

Pednekar revealed that a harrowing bout of dengue in late 2023 was the catalyst for her recent change in appearance.

"I was in hospital recovering from dengue," she shared. "I lost 12kg and half my hair. The pain you go through is unmatched." She recalled the physical toll the illness took, describing a "splitting headache" so severe she was hospitalised during the Diwali festivities. The timing of the illness coincided with her preparation for a new role, meaning she entered the project significantly lighter than intended.

Addressing the "Ozempic" Rumours

The actor admitted to being annoyed by the direct questions she receives regarding her weight. "In Delhi, women straight up come to me and ask, 'Aapne bhi Ozempic ya Mounjaro liya hai?' (Have you also taken Ozempic or Mounjaro?)"

While Pednekar clarified that she does not judge those who use such medication under medical supervision, she was firm about her own journey:

"People have even asked me if I’ve had a rib removed. What about the fact that I’ve put 10 years into working out and eating right? The fact is, I lost 40kg and more without injectables."

Upcoming works

On the work front, Pednekar was last seen in the 2025 romantic comedy Mere Husband Ki Biwi, alongside Arjun Kapoor and Rakul Preet Singh. Despite extensive promotion, the film met with a lukewarm response at the box office.

Fans can next see her in the second season of the series The Royals, where she stars opposite Ishaan Khatter.
