Actor and politician Nandamuri Balakrishna used the pre-release event of Akhanda 2 in Hyderabad to deliver a firm message to his fans, asking them to stop ritualistic animal sacrifices during film celebrations.

His remarks come months after five of his fans were booked for allegedly beheading a goat during the release of Daaku Maharaaj earlier this year.

Addressing the audience, Balakrishna said that while different regions hold on to various traditions, the practice of killing animals outside theatres during film releases must stop. He urged fans to respect all living beings and avoid harming animals in the name of celebration.

His comments drew reactions on social media, with users on X praising the appeal as a “good message” and criticising the practice of animal killings outside cinema halls.

Earlier this year, a video showing fans sacrificing a goat and smearing its blood on posters of Daaku Maharaaj in Tirupati went viral. Following a complaint from PETA India, local police registered an FIR against five individuals involved in the incident. This was not the first episode of its kind; during the release of Jr NTR’s Devara: Part 1 last year, a similar video of animal sacrifice by fans from the Nandamuri family’s fanbase had circulated online.
