Mumbai: Tributes poured in from across the Indian film industry following the death of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle, who passed away at the age of 92 due to multi-organ failure at Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday.

Actors, filmmakers and musicians took to social media to mourn the loss, remembering her as one of the most iconic voices in Indian cinema.

Veteran actor-politician Hema Malini said she shared a deep emotional bond with the singer and credited her for elevating many of her songs.

“Asha Tai no more! I just can’t believe how some one so full of life, she who lent so much vivacity and character to her songs has left us grieving It is especially hard for me as I have an emotional connect with Asha ji - she has made many of my songs so popular with her unique voice and style. I had a very special relationship with both Lata ji and Asha ji who have contributed in no small measure to my rise in the film industry.

It is a huge loss for Maharashtra and for the whole of India that can never be compensated or replaced ever!” she said.

Superstar Akshay Kumar described her voice as immortal, writing that her “melodious voice will live on forever”.

Filmmaker Karan Johar called her passing the “loss of a legend”, adding that her voice defined generations of Indian cinema.

Actor Kajol recalled a personal memory of watching Asha Bhosle record a song, describing her as “magnificent” and a timeless inspiration.

With a career spanning over eight decades, Asha Bhosle was known for her versatility across genres—from romantic melodies and ghazals to peppy Bollywood numbers.

Her most celebrated songs include “Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar”, “In Aankhon Ki Masti”, “Dil Cheez Kya Hai”, “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja”, “Duniya Mein Logon Ko”, and “Zara Sa Jhoom Loon Main”.

She was the younger sister of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar and remained one of the most influential voices in Indian music history.

Funeral details and survivors

Asha Bhosle is survived by her son Anand Bhosle and granddaughter Zanai Bhosle.

Her last rites will be held at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Monday, with family members, industry colleagues and fans expected to pay their final respects.
