Actress Aishwarya Lekshmi recently spoke about her selective approach to choosing roles in the film industry.

In an interview with The Cue, the actress revealed that she is not committing to projects in Malayalam due to her not getting scripts featuring well-rounded female characters.

“It has been seven years since I became a part of Malayalam cinema. I’ve always been passionate about working in my native language, not for fame or remuneration, but for the sheer joy it brings. However, it has been a long time since I came across a narration with a truly good female character,” she said.

She revealed that, in contrast, she has been offered stronger, more dynamic roles in Tamil and Telugu industries.

“I don’t know if it’s a lack of interest in me as an actor or a broader issue in writing, but it’s clear there’s less focus on crafting meaningful female characters. Sometimes, I wonder if writers don’t have female friends...There’s a lack of female characters who are genuinely happy—it’s always a projection of fake happiness. I think this is something writing should address,” she added.

On the work front, Aishwarya continues to shine in Tamil and Telugu cinema, earning acclaim for her recent powerful performances. Her last Malayalam film was Hello Mummy, a horror-comedy directed by Vaishakh Elans and written by Sanjo Joseph, where she starred opposite Sharaf U Dheen.
