During Coldplay's electrifying concert in Mumbai, lead singer Chris Martin left the audience in awe not just with his performance, but also with his thoughtful remarks on India's colonial history.

In a video shared by a fan, Martin expressed gratitude to the crowd, saying, “This is our fourth visit to India, and the second time to play. First time we played a long show and we could not have asked for a better audience. Thank you for coming today, everybody!”

"It amazes us that you welcome us despite our being from Great Britain. Thank you for forgiving us for all the bad things Britain has done and (still) welcoming us to your home.” His words resonated deeply with fans, highlighting the band's respect for India’s rich history and culture.

During the first concert in Mumbai, Martin surprised the crowd by saying "Shukriya" and even shouted "Jai Shri Ram," prompting enthusiastic applause. Intrigued by the phrase, he asked the audience to explain its meaning, further building a connection with them.

The singer also gave a playful shoutout to Indian cricketer Jasprit Bumrah, joking, “Hold on, we have to finish the show because Jasprit Bumrah wants to come and play backstage. He says he needs to bowl at me now.” Although Bumrah didn’t make an appearance, the mention delighted the crowd.

The concert, organised by BookMyShow Live, kicked off with a soulful performance by Indian singer Jasleen Royal, who performed her hit song "Kho Gaye Hum Kahan" before joining Martin on stage for a duet of "We Pray" from Coldplay’s latest album Moon Music.

Before the performance, Chris Martin and his partner, actress Dakota Johnson, visited the Shri Babulnath Temple, dressed in traditional Indian attire, adding a spiritual touch to their visit.

Coldplay’s India tour continues with additional shows in Mumbai on January 21 and two performances in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26.
