New York City: Fashion’s most fearsome editor is back — and she’s not alone. Nearly two decades after the original film became a cultural phenomenon, The Devil Wears Prada 2 has officially started production, with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci all reprising their iconic roles.

In a tantalising twist, Oscar winner Kenneth Branagh joins the cast as the husband of Miranda Priestly (Streep), the imperious editor-in-chief of Runway magazine. Disney’s 20th Century Studios confirmed the long-rumoured sequel on Instagram, teasing fans with an image of two devil-red stilettos and reigniting excitement worldwide.

Inspired by Lauren Weisberger’s best-selling roman à clef — itself famously linked to Anna Wintour’s reign at Vogue — the 2006 original followed Andy Sachs (Hathaway), a bright-eyed journalist thrown into the ruthless world of high fashion under the icy gaze of Priestley. The film grossed over $326 million globally and became a modern classic, celebrated for its cutting humour, unforgettable wardrobe, and sharp take on ambition and loyalty.

While official plot details remain under wraps, reports suggest the sequel will see Miranda battling to keep Runway afloat in a rapidly changing media landscape. Adding fuel to the drama, Blunt’s character — once Miranda’s beleaguered assistant — is now a powerful luxury executive whose company controls vital advertising dollars Miranda desperately needs. How Andy Sachs, who famously walked away from Runway at the end of the first film, will re-enter this high-stakes fashion chess match remains a mystery.

Director David Frankel and writer Aline Brosh McKenna return to steer the project, alongside producer Karen Rosenfelt.

Set to strut into theatres on May 1, 2026, The Devil Wears Prada 2 promises to serve fresh fashion, fierce power plays, and the long-awaited return of cinema’s most formidable boss. Consider your loins girded.
