Deb Mukherjee, a respected figure in the Indian film industry, belonged to the renowned Samarth-Mukherjee film family. His spokesperson confirmed his passing, stating that he had been battling age-related health issues.

He passed away on Friday morning at the age of 83 due to age-related ailments. His funeral is scheduled for 4pm at Pawan Hans Crematorium, Juhu, Mumbai, with several Bollywood celebrities expected to attend.

Born in Kanpur in 1941, Deb was part of an illustrious lineage. His mother, Satidevi, was the only sister of Ashok Kumar, Anup Kumar, and Kishore Kumar. His brothers included popular actor Joy Mukherjee and filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee, who was married to actress Tanuja, making him the uncle of Kajol and Rani Mukerji.

Deb Mukherjee was married twice—his daughter Sunita (from his first marriage) is married to filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, while his son Ayan Mukerji (from his second marriage) is a celebrated director known for films like Brahmāstra and Wake Up Sid.

The funeral of Deb Mukherjee will be held on March 14 at 4 PM at Pawan Hans Crematorium, Juhu. Prominent Bollywood personalities, including members of his extended family Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Rani Mukerji, Tanuja, Tanisha, and Aditya Chopra, are expected to attend.

Filmmaker Ayan Mukerji’s close friends from the industry, including Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Sidharth Malhotra, are also expected to pay their last respects.

Deb Mukherjee began his career in the 1960s, starring in films such as Tu Hi Meri Zindagi and Abhinetri. While he couldn’t replicate his brother Joy Mukherjee’s commercial success, he found his space in Bollywood through supporting roles in notable films like:

  • Baton Baton Mein (1979)
  • Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992)
  • King Uncle (1993)

His last on-screen appearance was a cameo in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2009 film Kaminey.
