Vietnam is emerging as an increasingly popular destination among Indian travellers, but authorities have urged caution over visa-free entry to Phu Quoc Island.
The Indian Embassy in Vietnam has issued a travel advisory highlighting potential complications linked to the much-publicised visa-free access to Phu Quoc. While the policy allows Indians to visit the island without a visa, it applies only under strict conditions.
What are the conditions?
Travellers must arrive on a direct international flight to Phu Quoc and remain on the island for the duration of their stay. Entering mainland Vietnam at any point, including during transit through cities such as Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi invalidates the visa-free provision.
Officials have warned that many Indian travellers are caught off guard by these rules, particularly as most routes from India involve stopovers in mainland Vietnam. Without a valid visa, passengers may face difficulties even before boarding flights.
