Kizhoor bridge in Palakkad, a favourite Malayalam and Tamil film backdrop, draws visitors with its views but lacks basic tourism development.

Palakkad: A decades-old aqueduct near the Ananganmala Eco Tourism Centre in Kizhoor has become a popular stop for visitors, thanks to its frequent appearances in Malayalam and Tamil films such as Aaraam Thampuran, Ee Puzhayum Kadannu and Muthu. The site has also featured in serials, music albums and remains a sought-after backdrop for wedding shoots and save-the-date videos.
Though tourists visiting Ananganmala often extend their trip to the aqueduct, no formal tourism development projects have been launched at the location. From the bridge, visitors are treated to sweeping views of green hills and sprawling paddy fields, making it a scenic vantage point in all seasons.
Constructed nearly 40 years ago by the Kanjirapuzha Irrigation Department for agricultural use, the structure carries a canal beneath while supporting a road for vehicles above. The surroundings are dominated by paddy and vegetable farms.
Residents say the spot deserves more attention. They have called for the installation of streetlights on the bridge and urged that the aqueduct be brought under Ananganmala’s eco-tourism plans to better showcase its appeal.
