In Indian cinema, memorable friendships are often associated with unforgettable dialogues and songs. Just as often, however, the vehicle carrying those friendships becomes just as iconic. From motorcycles to convertibles and old vans, several films have turned ordinary rides into lasting cinematic symbols.

One of the most enduring examples remains Sholay. The image of Jai and Veeru riding a black BSA WM20 motorcycle while singing Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge has become one of Bollywood's most recognisable visuals. Decades after the film's release, the motorcycle continues to be remembered as much as the friendship it carried.

Road trips later became a defining storytelling device in several films, with the vehicles themselves becoming central to the narrative.

In Dil Chahta Hai, the trio's journey to Goa aboard a dark blue Mercedes marked a turning point in their friendship. The drive allowed old misunderstandings to fade while capturing the transition from carefree youth to adulthood.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara took that idea beyond India, with its blue Buick convertible becoming synonymous with adventure and self-discovery. As the three friends travelled across Spain, the car became the setting for conversations, personal growth and moments that reshaped their relationships.

In Karwaan, the vehicle was more than just transport. The ageing van carrying three unlikely companions through the highways of South India became an essential part of the film's emotional journey, transforming a story born out of loss into one filled with humour, healing and unexpected friendships.

More recently, Telugu film Jigris once again placed a road journey at the centre of its story. The buddy comedy follows four childhood friends travelling to Goa in an old Maruti 800 after a life-changing medical diagnosis, using humour and nostalgia to explore enduring friendships.

The enduring popularity of these films has also kept several classic vehicles in public memory. Among them is the BSA motorcycle from Sholay, which remains one of Indian cinema's most recognisable motorcycles.

Drawing on that legacy, British heritage motorcycle brand BSA, now revived in India by Classic Legends, says the motorcycle has continued to represent shared journeys and friendships across generations.

Anupam Thareja, Co-Founder of Classic Legends, said the image of Jai and Veeru riding the BSA while singing Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge has endured because it captured the essence of friendship and the idea that "sometimes the journey matters more than the destination."

Whether it is a motorcycle cutting through dusty roads, a convertible cruising across Spain or a battered van winding through South India, these vehicles have become far more than props. They remain inseparable from the stories they helped tell, proving that in Bollywood, some of cinema's most memorable characters have arrived on four wheels—or two.
