Is India emerging as a trendsetter for global luxury fashion brands? That question has fuelled widespread discussion, and Louis Vuitton appears to offer a clear response with its latest design. The iconic French fashion house, known for its global fanbase, has introduced a handbag shaped like an Indian autorickshaw. The quirky creation has sparked a wave of reactions from fans across social media.

This distinctive handbag blends Indian street culture with high fashion. It has quickly become a topic of conversation among brand enthusiasts. Reflecting the vibrant imagery of autorickshaws seen on India’s bustling streets, the Louis Vuitton version is made of premium canvas and showcases the brand’s signature monogram pattern.

What sets it apart is the inclusion of small details such as the autorickshaw’s wheels, which are incorporated into the design. Both the handle and wheels are crafted from high-quality leather. The brand, known for previous releases featuring planes and dolphins, continues its exploration of novelty shapes.

The images were posted on Instagram by Diet Paratha. The caption wrote, “Did this bag just colonise me? Jokingggggg… NRI’s bout to go crazy for this one tho. Really wish they put this one on the runway last night. This was on display on a top of a shelf at the re-see this morning. @louisvuitton SS26”.

Netizens weigh in on LV’s rickshaw bag with sarcasm and style

One user remarked, “Middle class struggle is high class couture”. Another joked, Damn can I Dj in it”. A third user questioned, “why is west is suddenly obsessed with asia yesterday I saw prada showing kolhapuri chappal now LV autoriksha bag”.

Someone else quipped, “So are they going to price it by the meter?”. Meanwhile, another observed, “guys, I think the price of the real rickshaw and the LV ‘s rickshaw bag, almost the same”. Another user wrote, “we can legit buy a real rickshaw with the amount we would be spending on buying that bag”.

Indian elements also stood out during Louis Vuitton’s recent menswear show in Paris. From the stage design to the carpets and the designs modelled on stage, Indian heritage played a prominent role.

At Milan Fashion Week’s Menswear Spring/Summer 2026 showcase, Indian influence made another appearance. Models at Prada’s show walked the runway wearing traditional Kolhapuri chappals, underlining a growing global interest in Indian fashion motifs.
