District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) to introduce Kannur’s ritual art form ‘Theyyam’ in the travel marts (expos) being held in the state. The tourism department in the state plans to woo tourists to the next ‘Theyyam’ season in the state.
DTPC has also released calendars of the Theyyam season in the numerous exhibitions organised by Global Market. The updated calendars will be made available on the DTPC website every month. In this manner, the department hopes to attract foreigners to experience the ‘Kavus’ and temples of Kannur where Theyyam is performed.
There will be district DTPC stalls and two officials present at the exhibitions to educate foreigners about the importance of Theyyam in northern Kerala. Through the process, Theyyam will receive the same exposure received by Kathakali in the state.
