A considerable hike has been reported in the number of domestic travellers, who visited various tourist destinations in Kerala. Compared to the previous year, at least 196 per cent increase has been recorded in the first three quarters of this year. The figures denote the revival of the state's tourism sector from the clutches of the Covid-19 pandemic.
As many as 1.33 crore domestic tourists arrived in Kerala till September this year, which was 1.49 per cent high compared to the pre-Covid year.
A hike of 600 per cent is recorded in the number of foreign travellers reaching Kerala in 2022 compared to last year. The figures are expected to soar up with the beginning of cruise season. An overall growth of 120 per cent has been reported in Kerala's tourism sector. Kerala tourism department has released this data after collecting the real-time data from the hotels and resorts in the state.
Ernakulam received the highest number of domestic tourists this year, while Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur secured second and third position. A substantial surge has been reported in the number of travellers flocking to Idukki, Wayanad, and Pathanamthitta also.
