Munnar: The high ranges of Idukki have been witnessing extremely cold weather in the daytime marking a record drop in temperature compared to the past few winter seasons. The current weather status in the district which shares its border with Tamil Nadu is due to the influence of cyclone Mandous. The fog accompanied by drizzling again escalates the chillness.
This climate change has resulted in a sharp increase in the number of tourists who arrive in Idukki for experiencing the unique weather condition.
However, the labourers in the cardamom and tea plantations in Munnar and adjacent regions, including Pothamedu, Ottamaram, Uppala, Pallivasal, and Attukad said that they are unable to go to work due to the extreme cold weather.
The minimum and maximum temperatures in Munnar from Thursday to Friday evening were 12.1 and 15.3-degree celsius, respectively. The bookings for Christmas and New Year holidays are proceeding in the hotels and resorts here.
