Thekkady: In a bid to enhance the wildlife experience for tourists, the forest department has launched an eco-tourism project in Thekkady that allows visitors to explore the dense forest and experience the fall till boat landing in buggy cars.
As part of the project, two buggy cars, each capable of carrying five people, have been delivered. These cars will transport tourists from the entrance of Thekkady to the boat landing which is approximately three and a half kilometers away. Facilities will be provided for viewing and taking pictures along the route. Binoculars are also available for bird watching along with tourist guides who are trained in providing insights into the forest's ecosystem.

The project aims to provide a unique and comfortable experience for tourists, especially those who have difficulty walking. The buggy cars would cost Rs 200 per person for an hour. It will help them explore the forest along with the stunning view of the turtle park.
The project initiated upon Periyar Tiger Reserve Field Director P. P. Pramod's instruction has already received a positive response during its trial run on Wednesday. The two buggy cars, costing around Rs 14 lakh, are designed to provide a comfortable and eco-friendly experience for tourists.
