
Kunchithanny: Hydel tourism has hit rock bottom amid coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent lockdown. Speed boats used for boating in rivers and dams are now anchored and rusting.
Even if tourism centres open after lockdown, these boats will have to undergo maintenance worth lakhs of rupees for repair works to become usable.
In Idukki tourism sector, the most income providing department is hydel tourism.
Boating facilities were arranged in Mattupetty, Kundala, Aanayirankkal, Ponmudy and Chenkulam areas.
With lockdown imposed, no employees are reaching the centres, leaving the boats untouched.
Hydel tourism centre’s which garnered lakhs of daily income is moving towards huge debt.
