Devotees are flocking to the Kedarnath temple, which was opened on May 10 as part of the Char Dham Yatra. Within the first three days, a total of 75,139 devotees visited the temple. This was a record footfall that Kedarnath has experienced in the last five years.
Around 23,510 people visited the temple on Sunday alone.
The Kedarnath Dham was reopened after a six-month gap. The temple is situated on the banks of the Mandakini River at an altitude of 3,583 metre above sea level. Along with this, the other three dhams—Yamunotri, Gangotri and Badrinath were also opened for the devotees. The Char Dham Yatra starts at Yamunotri, goes to Gangotri and from there to Kedarnath and finally ends at Badrinath.
Devotees can travel between the months of April–May and October–November. It was last closed on November 15, 2023.
Every year, lakhs of people visit these four temples to offer their prayers. Online booking for this year's Char Dham Yatra started on April 15.
Registration was accepted through the website of the Uttarakhand Tourism Department: registrationandtouristcare.uk.gov.in. It is learned that more than fifteen lakh pilgrims have registered so far. Char Dhams are expected to witness the largest influx of devotees this year and create history.
