Set against the dramatic, snow-draped peaks of the Himalayas, Kedarnath is steadily shedding its winter silence and preparing to welcome a sea of devotees.

With the reopening of the Kedarnath Temple scheduled for April 22, the temple town is witnessing a surge of activity, as authorities and locals work round the clock to ensure everything is in place for the annual Char Dham Yatra.

The sacred shrine is being adorned with more than 51 quintals of fresh flowers from various parts of the country, transforming the austere stone temple into a vibrant symbol of devotion.

Pathways are being cleared, infrastructure is being readied, and security and crowd management measures are being put in place ahead of the expected influx of pilgrims.

Adding to the spirit of devotion, several early-arriving pilgrims have joined hands with officials, volunteering in preparation work and contributing to the festive build-up in the high-altitude town.

The reopening of Kedarnath marks a key milestone in the Char Dham pilgrimage season. While the shrine opens on April 22, the portals of Badrinath Temple will follow on April 23.

The yatra had already begun on April 19 with the opening of Gangotri and Yamunotri temples, drawing thousands of pilgrims to Uttarakhand’s revered Himalayan shrines.

As chants, colours, and preparations intensify, Kedarnath stands ready once again to become the epicentre of faith in the mountains.
