A recent study has shown an increase in the sales of pills for weight loss and type 2 diabetes. The figures were released by 'Pharmarack' that collates the data of the pharmaceutical wholesale trade association. Experts warn against consuming the drug containing semaglutide without the prescription of doctors.

An injection called GLP-1 analogues is usually prescribed to adults and older people with type 2 diabetes, and these are available at affordable prices. In 2022, the medicine in pill form was introduced to the Indian market. A brand named Rybelsus had a turnover of Rs 24 crore in April 2022. In April 2023, they had a turnover of Rs 147 crore. The medicine that is sold in 3, 7, and 14 mg costs Rs 3,000 for a strip of ten. 

It has been found that this medicine contributes to 60 percent of the sales of weight loss pills. Cheaper medicines containing the drug Dapagliflozin are available on the market as well. Although there are a lot of people who consume diabetes and weight-loss pills, this has not yet gained much popularity in the market here. 

It is advised to consume these medicines only under a doctor’s supervision. Side effects such as loss of appetite, pancreatic complications, etc can occur. Do not use these medicines without a doctor’s recommendation.
