Thiruvananthapuram: A majority opinion emerged opposing the idea of making Saturday a working day for schools, as discussed in a hearing directed by the High Court. The session was conducted in the presence of Rani George, Principal Secretary of General Education.
Teachers organisations only wanted efficient use of the existing working days. They said that six consecutive working days would not be beneficial. The organisations insisted that Saturday should remain a non-working day, allowing students to have adequate rest. Psychologists and education experts echoed these sentiments.

Representatives from various teachers' unions attended the hearing. K Badarunnisa from the Kerala School Teachers Association (KSTA), OK Jayakrishnan of the All Kerala School Teachers' Union (AKSTU), K Abdul Majeed of the Kerala Pradesh School Teachers Association (KPSTA), K M Abdullah from the Kerala School Teachers Union (KSTU), and Hareesh Kadavathur from the KSTC expressed their views.
