Kochi: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the new academic year ‘Pravesanolsavam 2024’ here on Monday. In his inaugural speech, he highlighted the efforts made to revolutionise the school education system. The event was held at Elamakkara Government High School. Over 2,44,646 students are reportedly joining class 1 this academic year.

“I wish to speak to the children today. You are coming back to school after a long vacation. There are also the young ones in this group who are stepping into school for the first time. I welcome everyone to the schools. The summer vacation brought with it soaring temperatures and heavy rains towards its end, perhaps hindering some of your usual playtime and leisure activities. But as you return to school, I'm confident you're doing so with joyful hearts."

"Here, happiness awaits you anew. The excitement of reuniting with friends, the delight of returning to familiar classrooms and playgrounds, and the satisfaction of receiving your books and uniforms on time. It warms my heart to hear that many of you already had the bags we distributed. Many facilities have been prepared in the schools. Classrooms have turned hi-tech, and robotic kits will also be available. Schools have transformed into arenas that offer endless possibilities for learning and fun. I hope that you make use of these facilities and succeed in life," Vijayan said.

"Our education sector consists of about 13,000 schools, more than 45 lakh students, 2 lakh teachers, and more than 20,000 non-teaching staff. We have upheld policies that give utmost importance to education. This is a new time and age. Our children should be made able to face these changing times. Our land has strengthened the general education system in a manner that makes our children able to face life’s challenges,” he added.
