Kozhikode: Complaints are being raised regarding the withholding of deserved grace marks for many students in the Plus Two examination. This has affected the students' grades. The complaint is that students who could have got A plus for a difference of four or five marks have lost it due to this discrimination.

Previously, grace marks were also considered at the time of declaration of results. Since the results were announced in a rush this time, it is alleged that the grace marks for activities including NSS are yet to be added.

Apart from NSS, participation and excellence in Arts festival, science festival, student police cadet, scouts and guides, children’s science congress, etc are eligible for grace marks. There also exist criteria of many marks that can be awarded for each category.

However, the maximum marks possible are not awarded to students in an equitable manner. The method is to assign the required marks in various subjects to pass or reach any grade. Grace marks are not given to students who have achieved 90 percent (A plus).

Based on the criticism that those awarded grace marks often score higher than those with academic excellence, the marks are now awarded on the basis of a revised guideline. This time, parents and teachers are raising allegations that grace marks are not reflected in the declaration of results.
