The NEET PG 2026 result has barely been out for two days, but questions over how candidates were evaluated are already beginning to surface, with several medical aspirants alleging that their ranks and scores do not tally with their own calculations based on recalled answers.

The concerns have now reached the All India Medical Students' Association (AIMSA), which has approached Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda seeking the immediate release of the official question paper, answer key and individual response sheets.

The association has argued that candidates should be given a way to independently verify how their scores were arrived at.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) declared the NEET PG results on Thursday, September 24, along with scorecards and category-wise qualifying cut-offs.

However, soon after the results were announced, some candidates took to social media to question whether their reported scores matched the number of correct answers they had expected based on recalls of the examination.

One X user described the confusion among candidates, saying their NEET PG ranks ‘are not making sense to them’ because the number of correct answers they had calculated from recalls did not correspond with their actual results.

The user also pointed to the absence of a mechanism through which candidates could check their responses and understand where the difference had arisen.

Another post called for greater transparency from the examination authorities and the Health Ministry, urging them to make the complete question paper, answer key and individual answer keys available to candidates.

What AIMSA has asked for

AIMSA has formally sought an "immediate release" of three key documents:

  • The complete NEET PG 2026 question paper
  • The official answer key
  • Individual response sheets of candidates

In its representation to JP Nadda, the association stressed that NEET PG is a high-stakes examination that determines postgraduate opportunities for thousands of medical graduates across the country.

It argued that transparency in both the examination and evaluation process is necessary to maintain candidates' confidence in the system.

The association said access to the question paper, answer key and individual response sheets would give candidates an opportunity to examine their own performance rather than rely solely on the score and rank displayed in the result.

According to AIMSA, candidates should be able to compare their recorded responses with the official answers, understand how their marks were calculated and estimate what their expected score should have been. If such an exercise reveals a genuine discrepancy, candidates could then bring the matter before the competent authority.

The demand comes against the backdrop of growing uncertainty among some candidates who say they are unable to reconcile their recalled performance with the result they have received.

At present, the allegations circulating on social media remain claims by individual candidates and have not, by themselves, established that there was an error in the NEET PG evaluation process.

AIMSA has therefore sought intervention from the Health Ministry, asking it to issue appropriate directions to the concerned authorities and facilitate the early release of the requested documents.

The association said such disclosures would help address questions surrounding the evaluation and provide candidates with greater clarity about the basis on which their NEET PG 2026 scores and ranks were determined.

For thousands of medical graduates awaiting postgraduate opportunities, the demand is ultimately centred on one issue: being able to see how their answers translated into the marks and rank they received.
