The Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun, Uttarakhand, ISRO, Department of Space, Government of India, a premier institute for capacity building and research in Remote Sensing (RS) and Geoinformatics, has invited applications for the recruitment of eleven Junior Research Fellows (JRFs) (temporary) in various projects of the Institute.
The JRF position codes and eligibility criteria are as follows:
Post Code JRF 119:
Master’s Degree in Water Resources Engineering/Hydrology/Civil Engineering/Agricultural Engineering/Geoinformatics/Remote Sensing & GIS or equivalent. The applicant must have completed a dissertation in the field of Water Resources/Hydrology.
Post Code JRF 120:
M.Tech in Civil Engineering/Water Resources Engineering/Hydrology/Remote Sensing & GIS or equivalent. The applicant must have completed a dissertation in the field of Water Resources/Hydrology.
Post Code JRF 121:
M.Tech in Geology/Geophysics/Applied Geology/Earth Science or Geoinformatics/Geomatics/Remote Sensing & GIS or equivalent (with specialization/dissertation in Geosciences), OR
M.Sc in Geology/Geophysics or equivalent subject with a Post Graduate Diploma (PGD) in Remote Sensing and GIS (with Physics/Mathematics/Chemistry/Computer Science at the B.Sc level).
Post Code JRF 122:
M.Sc or equivalent from a recognized university/institution in Physics/Applied Physics/Mathematics/Applied Mathematics/Geomatics/Geoinformatics/Remote Sensing/Computer Science/IT or equivalent, with Physics or Mathematics as a subject at graduation level,
OR
M.Tech/M.E./M.Arch/M.Plan or equivalent from a recognized university/institution in Physics/Maths/Geography/Geology/Civil Engineering/Geomatics/Geoinformatics/Remote Sensing/Computer Science/IT/Architecture & Planning/Heritage Science & Technology (with BE/B.Tech in Civil/Computer Engineering/IT/Geomatics/Geoinformatics/Remote Sensing & GIS/B.Arch/B.Plan)
OR
M.Sc in Physics/Maths/Geoinformatics/CS/IT/Geology/Geography.
Post Code JRF 123:
Master’s degree in Agricultural Meteorology/Agricultural Physics/Plant Physiology/Agronomy/Environmental Science/Forestry/Ecology/Remote Sensing & GIS/Geoinformatics or equivalent.
Post Code JRF 124:
Master’s degree in Agricultural Meteorology/Agricultural Physics/Plant Physiology/Environmental Science/Environmental Management/Forestry/Ecology/Remote Sensing & GIS/Geoinformatics or equivalent.
Post Code JRF 125:
M.Sc degree from a recognized university/institution in Physics/Applied Physics/Atmospheric Science/Meteorology/Climatology/Environmental Science/Mathematics, with Physics or Mathematics studied at the graduate level,
OR
M.Tech degree in Atmospheric Science/Applied Physics/Meteorology/Climatology/RS & GIS (with specialization in Atmospheric Science or equivalent).
Post Code JRF 126:
M.Sc from a recognized university/institution in Physics/Applied Physics/Mathematics/Applied Mathematics/Atmospheric Science/Meteorology/Environmental Science, with Physics or Mathematics as a subject at the graduate level,
OR
M.Tech in Atmospheric Science/Meteorology/Remote Sensing & GIS (with specialization in Atmospheric Sciences or equivalent).
Post Code JRF 127 & Post Code JRF 128:
M.Sc in Forestry/Ecology/Botany/Environmental Sciences/Wildlife Sciences/Biodiversity & Conservation,
OR
M.Tech or equivalent in Remote Sensing and GIS with a dissertation in Forestry/Ecology.
There are 2 positions for Post Code JRF 122 and 1 position each for all other post codes.
Educational Qualification Requirements:
(A) M.E./M.Tech/M.Sc (Engg.)/equivalent PG degree in First Class with a minimum aggregate of 60% or CGPA/CPI 6.5 on a 10-point scale.
(B) M.Sc in First Class with a minimum aggregate of 65% over all semesters or CGPA/CPI 6.84 on a 10-point scale.
Only candidates who have qualified National Eligibility Tests such as CSIR–UGC NET (including Lectureship/Assistant Professorship), GATE, or national-level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies/institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IITs, IISc, IISER, NISER, etc., are eligible to apply.
The upper age limit is 28 years as on 14.12.2025. Details of age relaxation are provided in the notification.

The fellowship will initially be for 2 years, extendable based on performance and project requirements. The maximum period of engagement as JRF and SRF combined shall not exceed 5 years.
Applications may be submitted online at the IIRS website up to 1730 hours on 14.12.2025. There is no application fee for any post.
