EY and Microsoft have launched the AI Skills Passport, a free online programme to equip young Indians with job-ready AI skills.

New Delhi: In a major move to address India’s widening artificial intelligence (AI) skills gap, EY and Microsoft on Sunday launched the AI Skills Passport, a free online learning programme aimed at equipping young Indians with essential, job-ready AI capabilities.
Targeted at individuals aged 16 and above, the initiative seeks to offer equitable access to high-quality AI education, preparing students and early-career professionals to thrive in an AI-driven economy.
The India launch follows the programme’s global rollout earlier this year, which has already attracted over 40,000 participants, with more than 13,000 successfully completing the course.
According to NASSCOM, only 31 per cent of professionals in India currently feel confident using AI tools. The partnership between EY and Microsoft aims to bridge this gap by empowering young people to upskill and prepare for the evolving digital workforce.
“In an era where AI is revolutionising work and redefining career paths, the launch of the AI Skills Passport addresses India's growing demand for skilled AI talent,” said Monesh Dange, Partner and Leader, Alliances and Ecosystems, EY India.
“Many professionals remain unprepared to harness AI's full potential. Together with Microsoft, we're committed to ensuring this programme is not only free but impactful at scale, providing access for everyone to build essential AI skills,” he added.
The fully online course, available in both English and Hindi, features around 10 hours of content delivered through modular video lessons, hands-on exercises, and self-paced assessments. Learners can explore topics such as the fundamentals of AI, responsible AI practices, and its applications across sector,s including healthcare, finance, and technology.
The programme also includes real-world case studies and career guidance modules covering CV building, interview preparation, and networking strategies to boost employability.
Upon completion, participants receive a verifiable digital badge, enhancing their job profiles and career prospects in the AI-powered economy.
“AI is transforming India’s digital economy, with youth at its core,” said Bhaskar Basu, Enterprise Partnerships Leader, Microsoft India & South Asia. “The AI Skills Passport, launched in partnership with EY, reflects our vision of ‘AI for all’ and our commitment to nurturing future-ready talent.”
