Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Thycaud Post, Poojappura, Thiruvananthapuram - 695014, has invited application for admission to the PhD program in various domains of Disease Biology, Neurobiology, Bioinformatics and Plant Science for the January 2025 session. 

The program is affiliated to the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), NCR Biotech Science Cluster, 3rd Milestone, Faridabad-Gurugram Expressway, Faridabad-121 001; an ‘Institution of National Importance’, providing education, training and research, established by the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). 

The selected candidates will register for the PhD program with RCB and will have to follow the guidelines issued by RCB and RGCB for the award of PhD degree.

Eligibility

Applicant should hold a Post-graduate degree in Life/ Agricultural/ Environmental/ Veterinary/ Pharmaceutical/ Medical Sciences or allied subjects (Biochemistry/ Biotechnology/ Bioinformatics/ Biophysics/ Chemistry/ Microbiology, etc.) with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate (55% for SC, ST and differently abled candidates)/equivalent grade in the UGC 10-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale where ever grade system is followed) or an approved equivalent from a foreign educational institution.

Applicant should have a valid JRF (UGC/ CSIR/ ICMR/ DBT/ DST-INSPIRE or any other nationally-competitive fellowship) for a period of 5 years offered by the Government.

Age limit

Upper age limit would be 26 years as on July 01, 2024. For the SC, ST and differently abled candidates' upper age limit would be 28 years as on July 01, 2024.

Selection

Based on the eligibility criteria and considering the vacancy specified, applicants will be shortlisted for the interview. 

List of the short listed candidates for interview will be displayed on RGCB notice board and the website on November 27, 2024. Interview will be held at RGCB main campus Poojappura, in offline mode during December 16-18, 2024. The guidelines for interview will be provided to all the shortlisted candidates.  

Based on the performance of the student in the personal interview, applicants will be shortlisted for the final selection. The final selection is based the outcome of the one to one interaction with the faculty scientist.

Those selected have to join the Hostel on or before December 30, 2024. PhD program and course work Classes commence on January 01, 2025.

Application Fee of Rs. 500/- must be paid online using 'SB Collect' of State Bank of India through the URL given in the Payment Stage. SC/ ST/ EWS/ differently abled candidates are exempted from paying the processing fees. 

Fees for PhD Programme: Students admitted for PhD programme will have to pay an administrative fee of Rs. 5000/- per semester for the first ten semesters and Rs. 10,000/- for every semester after that. All the students have to pay the RCB administrative fees.
