Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation [GIFT], an Autonomous Institution of the Government of Kerala, GIFT Campus, Chavadimukku, Sreekariyam PO, Thiruvananthapuram- 695 017, has invited applications for admission to its PhD Programme in Social Science affiliated to Cochin University of Science & Technology (CUSAT), Kochi with specializations in Economics and Commerce, for the year 2024. 

The program envisages grooming scholars with strong analytical and empirical competence to explore issues pertaining to economics and commerce, especially finance and taxation. Backed by a rigorous coursework, the scholars are trained in problem solving skills with a strong foundation in theory, quantitative methods and data analytics. 

Areas: Preferred Areas of Research in Economics are, Public Finance &Taxation, Development Economics, Applied Economics and in Commerce are Direct & Indirect Taxation (including GST), Financial Management, Government Accounts, Capital Markets.

Intake: Maximum number of seats will be Eight 

Research Fellowship: Selected doctoral candidates can avail Institute’s fellowship of Rs. 20000/- per month for a maximum period of three years. However, institute encourage the Scholars to avail external sources of funding such as UGC’s JRF/SRF, ICSSR, RGNF, Kerala State Government fellowship for SC/ST students and others. 

Eligibility: Applicant must have a Master’s Degree in any Social Science preferably, Economics/ Econometrics/ Applied Economics/Commerce with at least 55% marks (50% for OBC (NCL), SC, ST, PWD, EWS). Those awaiting the results of the qualifying examination may also apply. 

Selection: Eligible candidates will be invited for an entrance test followed by a personal interview. Those holding JRF/other fellowships as notified by CUSAT are exempted from the entrance test. Selection will be based on the respective scores as per CUSAT norms. 

Reservation: Reservations will be as per rules of Government of Kerala and CUSAT.

Applicants are required to submit a research proposal of maximum 1000 words along with their application form. Necessary instructions and guidelines for preparing research proposals are provided in the online application form. 

Application Fee: Application fee is Rs. 1000/- (Rs. 500/- for SC, ST & Eligible PWD) to be paid as per the instructions in the Notification.  

Result of the Application Scrutiny will be notified on 02.12.2024.

Entrance and Interview will be during 16.12.2024 to 18.12.2024. Results will be announced on 18.12.2024.

Admission Process will be completed on 23.12.2024
