Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Hyderabad, a Deemed to be University, 36/P, Gopanpally Village, Serilingampally Mandal, Ranga Reddy District, Hyderabad, Telangana- 500 046, has invited applications for admission to the Ph.D Programme starting in September 2023 under the Subject Board of Biology through CSIR-UGC NET 2023 (JRF eligible only) & DBT BET-2023 (JRF eligible only) streams.

The Ph.D program at TIFR Hyderabad aims to foster an interdisciplinary approach toward answering scientific question. The department-less structure, an open-lab culture, a flexible course selection and the freedom to join any lab in the institute, combined with world-class facilities and cutting-edge research, creates a stimulating research environment and enables students to pursue interdisciplinary research. 

Duration of the Ph.D Program is 5 years. Coursework must be completed within a maximum period of 2 years or as per the subject board guidelines. The student must register for their Ph.D research at the end of 2 years. A residency period of 2 years after joining TIFRH is mandatory for submitting the thesis. 

Monthly scholarship will be Rs. 31,000/- which will be enhanced to Rs. 35,000/- after registration for Ph.D research. Annual contingency grant will be Rs. 40,000/-

For admission to the Biology-oriented Subject Board for Ph.D, applicant should hold an M.Sc (Physics/Chemistry/Any branch of Biology) or any professional Master’s degree (M.Pharma./M.Tech.), or a degree of duration of four or more years of university training (e.g., MBBS, BDS).

In addition, applicant must have qualified in any of the following examinations in Biological Sciences/Engineering: (i) CSIR UGC NET 2023 (JRF eligible) (ii) DBT BET 2023 (JRF eligible)

Candidates will be shortlisted for interview based on the results of the examinations mentioned and the applications material. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for online interview. TIFRH Biology interviews will be conducted 23-25 Aug 2023. The exact dates for the online interview will be mentioned in the call letter.
