
National Institute of Design (NID) has invited applications for admission to the full time four year Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) and Two and a Half year’s Master of Design (M.Des) Programmes offered at various campuses of NID.
B.Des Programs are offered at NIDs at Ahmedabad, Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam.
The Specializations for B.Des. offered at different centres are the following: Ahmedabad-Faculties of (i) Communication Design (Animation Film Design, Exhibition Design, Film and Video Communication, Graphic Design) (ii) Industrial Design (Ceramic & Glass Design, Furniture & Interior Design, Product Design) (iii) Textile Apparel Lifestyle & Accessory Design (Textile Design). At Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam, B.Des is offered in Communication Design, Industrial Design, Textile and Apparel Design. There is a one-year Foundation Program at all centres. Allotment of specialization will be based on performance in foundation course and choice of applicants.
M.Des programmes are offered at Ahmedabad and extension campuses at Bengaluru and Gandhinagar. The campuses and Programmes are as follows: (i) Ahmedabad: Animation Film Design, Film & Video Communication, Graphic Design, Ceramic & Glass Design, Furniture & Interior Design, Product Design, Textile Design (ii) Gandhinagar: Photography Design, Toy & Game Design, Transportation & Automobile Design, New Media Design, Strategic Design Management, Apparel Design, Lifestyle Accessory Design (iii) Bengaluru: Universal Design, Digital Game Design, Information Design, Interaction Design, Design for Retail Experience
Educational Qualification: For B.Des, Applicant should have passed higher secondary (10+2)/equivalent examination in any stream (Science/Arts/Commerce/Humanities) or should be appearing for the qualifying examination in the academic year 2024-25.
For M.Des, applicant must possess at least one of the following minimum qualification obtained after 12th standard (i) Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization (ii) Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization (iii) Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/Architecture. Applicants should have appeared for/completed the eligibility qualification by the cut-off date specified for each in the Admissions Handbook 2025-26 available at https://admissions.nid.edu/
Age: For B.Des, applicants should have been born on or after 1st July 2004 and for M.Des. applicant should have been born on or after 1.7.1993. Those belonging to OBC-NCL, SC, ST categories will get relaxation of 3 years and those of PwD category, relaxation of 5 years in upper age limit.
Selection: Selection to B.Des and M.Des will be based on Design Aptitude Tests (DAT) to be conducted in two stages- DAT Prelims and DAT Mains. DAT (Prelims) will be conducted on 5.1.2025 (Sunday) at Centres across the country. Based on scores in DAT (Prelims), applicants will be shortlisted for DAT mains. Details are given in Prospectus.
Application: Applications can be submitted online at https://admissions.nid.edu/ latest by 4 pm on 3.12.2024 (Friday). For PG, one can apply to a maximum of two disciplines.
