National Institute of Design (NID) has invited applications for admission to the full time four year Bachelor of Design (B.Des.) Programmes offered at Ahmedabad and at NID Andhra Pradesh, NID Haryana, NID Madhya Pradesh & NID Assam which are independent autonomous institutes under the Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India.

Specializations: The Specializations offered at different centres are the following: 

Ahmedabad-Faculties of Communication Design (Animation Film Design, Exhibition Design, Film and Video Communication, Graphic Design), Industrial Design (Ceramic & Glass Design, Furniture & Interior Design, Product Design), Textile Apparel Lifestyle & Accessory Design (Textile Design)

At Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Assam, B.Des is offered in Communication Design, Industrial Design, Textile and Apparel Design. There is a one-year Foundation Program at all centres.

Selection: Admission to all the programmes is based on the candidates’ performance in the two-stages of Design Aptitude Test (DAT)- DAT Prelims & DAT Mains. The objective of these exams is to assess the knowledge, skills and behavioural abilities of the candidates.

Stage 1 is the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) will be conducted on 24 December 2023 (Sunday), at centres across the country. It will be a paper-and-pencil/pen test, in which the questions asked may involve text and visuals. The question paper will be in English language.

Stage 2, is the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains for those shortlisted after the DAT Prelims and who will be invited to appear for the Stage 2 DAT Mains. It will be held on 27 April and 28 April 2023. Details of the Test Centre will be mentioned in the DAT Mains Admit Card.

Educational Qualification: Applicant should have passed higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in any stream (Science, Arts, Commerce, Humanities etc.) from any recognized board of education such as CBSE, CISCE, IB or equivalent or should be appearing for this qualifying examination in the academic year 2023-24.

Age Limit: Indian National applicants should have been born on or after 1 July 2003. Those belonging to OBC-NCL, SC, ST categories, born on or after 1 July 2000 are eligible to apply for admission. For PwD Reserved Category, those born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible to apply for admission.

Application: Application can be submitted online at https://admissions.nid.edu latest by 4 pm on 1st December, 2023. Application Fee is Rs.3000/- (Rs.1500/- for SC/ST/PwD).

Applications can be submitted till 4 pm on 3rd December, 2023, by paying application fee and late fee. The amounts to be paid will be Rs.4500/- or Rs.2250/-.

Window to edit application will be open from 4 pm on 5th December to 4 pm on 7th December 2023. 

Admit Card for DAT Prelims can be downloaded from 4 pm on 12th December 2023.
