Applications have been invited by the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, for admission to the Master of Design (M.Des) programmes of two and a half years duration in various specializations at the Ahmedabad and at the extension campuses of the Institute at Bengaluru and Gandhinagar.

The campuses and Programmes are as follows:

Ahmedabad: Animation Film Design, Ceramic & Glass Design, Furniture &Interior Design, Film & Video Communication, Graphic Design, Product Design, Textile Design

Gandhinagar: Apparel Design, Lifestyle Accessory Design, Strategic Design Management, New Media Design, Photography Design, Toy & Game Design, Transportation & Automobile Design

Bengaluru: Design for Retail Experience, Digital Game Design, Information Design, Interaction Design, Universal Design

Eligibility: Applicant should have been born on or after 1.7.1992. However, those belonging to OBC-NCL, SC & ST categories, born on or after 1st July 1989, and PwD category born on or after 1st July 1987 are also eligible.

Applicant must possess at least one of the following minimum qualification obtained after 12th standard.

Bachelor degree of minimum 4-year duration in any specialization by May/June 2022
Bachelor degree of minimum 3-year duration in any specialization by August 2021.
Full-time Diploma of minimum 4-year duration in Design/Fine Arts/Applied Arts/ Architecture latest by May/June 2022.

Selection: Selection will be based on Design Aptitude Tests (DAT) to be conducted in two stages- DAT Prelims and DAT Mains/. DAT (Prelims) will be conducted on 2.1.2022 (Sunday) at Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Guwahati, Goa, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Kolkata, Kurukshetra, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Shimla, Thiruvananthapuram and Vijayawada.

It will carry 100 marks and will comprise of a Common Design Aptitude Test and a faculty-specific Domain Test, with a mix of objective and subjective type questions. Based on scores in DAT (Prelims), applicants will be shortlisted for DAT mains. Details are available in the Handbook.  

Application: Applications can be submitted online at https://admissions.nid.edu/ latest by 4 pm on 30.11.2021 (Tuesday). One can apply to a maximum of two disciplines.

Application fee is Rs.3000/- (Rs.1500/- for SC/ST/PwD) for applying for one specialization and Rs.6000/-/Rs.3000/- for applying for 2 specializations, which may be paid online. Application can be submitted after this time point latest by 4 pm on 5.12.2021 (Sunday), on payment of late fee. The total fee to be paid in this period will be Rs.6000/-/Rs.3000/- or Rs.12000/-/Rs.6000/- respectively.
