Madras School of Economics, recognised as an institution of special importance by the Government of Tamil Nadu, Gandhi Mandapam Road, Behind Government Data Centre, Kotturpuram, Chennai - 600 025, has invited applications for admission to 2-year M.A. and M.Sc. Programs for the academic year 2025-26.

MA Programs offered (i) Actuarial Economics (ii) Applied Quantitative Finance (iii) Environmental Economics (iv) Financial Economics (v) General Economics. M.Sc. is offered in Data Science.

Eligibility MA: The applicant should have an undergraduate degree in social sciences (including commerce & management), sciences or engineering with 55% marks (50% for OBC – non-creamy layer; 45% for SC/ST/PWD candidates). The applicant should have studied mathematics at the plus-two level or its equivalent, which includes a pass certificate from the National Institute of Open Schooling for Mathematics at the senior secondary level or the completion of mathematical economics course(s) at the undergraduate level.

Eligibility MSc: (i) Applicants should hold an undergraduate degree in social sciences (including commerce & management), sciences or mathematics, statistics or engineering with 55% marks (50% for OBC – Non-Creamy Layer; 45% for SC/ST/PWD candidates). Applicant should have studied Mathematics at plus-two level, or its equivalent or completed Mathematical Economics course(s) at the undergraduate level (ii) The applicant should have a current valid GATE score in Computer Science & Information Technology (CS), Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DA), Mathematics (MA), Statistics (ST) or Physics (PH).

For both Programs, Applicant should not have completed 25 years of age as on 1st July 2025. Those appearing for their final year UG Degree exams of the academic year 2024-25 can also apply.

Selection: Admission to both Programs will be based on the entrance test to be held on 31st May 2025 at designated centres in India, subject to fulfilment of eligibility criteria. In the case of a tie in entrance test marks, merit ranking will be based on the percentage of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and age.

Students applying for M.Sc Data Science through GATE Scores will be allotted maximum 50% seats without entrance test and the balance seats will be through All India Entrance Test. In both cases the reservation policy will be followed.

Seats: The intake under each of the five M.A. Programs will be 47, including a 35% quota for the resident students of Tamil Nadu. Reservation Policy of Govt of Tamil Nadu will be followed.

Application fee is Rs. 1200/- (Rs. 1000/- for SC/ST category).

Admit Card can be downloaded from 19th May 2025.

Result Declaration/Score Card Downloading can be done during 17-18th June 2025.

Induction Program will be conducted for 2 weeks before commencement of classes on 1st August 2025.
