
Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Kolkata has invited applications from motivated students for admission to the Integrated PhD Programme in Biological Sciences, Earth Sciences and Physical Sciences, for the Autumn 2025 Session.
The programme comprises two years of Masters-level coursework followed by four years of dedicated research towards PhD.
Eligibility: Those holding a Bachelor degree from any recognized University/Institute/College, can apply for the Integrated PhD Programme in Biological Sciences, Earth Sciences and Physical Sciences.
Subject combination needed at UG level: Applicants are required to have the following subject(s) in the undergraduate courses: (i) Biological Sciences: (a) Any branch of Biology, Biotechnology, Medical Sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry OR Bachelor’s degree including B.Tech., B.E., B.V.Sc., B. Pharma., B. Sc (Agri). (Major subjects) (b) Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Statistics (Supporting Subjects) (ii) Earth Sciences: (a) Any branch of Earth Sciences or Physics (b) Physics/Chemistry and Mathematics (iii) Physical Sciences: (a) Physics (b) Mathematics.
Minimum Qualifying marks: Applicant should secure a minimum of 60% marks/equivalent grades in Honours/Major (if applicable), or 60% marks/equivalent grades in Aggregate (if Honours/Major is not applicable). For SC/ST the minimum marks requirement is 55%. Those who are appearing in the final examination of their degree course can also apply. For them, the eligibility marks are 60% based on the marks obtained in the undergraduate examinations held till the date of submission of the application form.
Aptitude Test Requirement: Applicant should have qualified in the specified nationwide aptitude tests in the year 2025 as follows: (i) For Biological Sciences: JAM (Biotechnology)/JGEEBILS (ii) For Earth Sciences: JAM (Geology) OR JAM Physics (iii) For Physical Sciences: JAM (Physics)/JEST (Physics).
Application: Application can be submitted online at https://apply.iiserkol.ac.in/ latest by 14th May 2025. In case one wants to apply to multiple departments, separate applications need to be filled for each department.
Institute-level committee(s) will scrutinize all the applications, and prepare a shortlist of candidates, who will be called for an interview. List of Shortlisted candidates for Interview will be published on 21st May 2025.
Selection test/Interview will be held as follows: DBS: 2nd to 6th June 2025 (There will be two rounds of interviews); DES: 9-10 June 2025; DPS: 18th to 22nd June 2025.
Publication of interview results: DBS- not specified; DES: 30th June 2025; DPS: 03rd July 2025.
Pre-registration portal opens on 4th July 2025. IPhD Registration will be on 28th July 2025.
Reservations will be as per Govt. of India norms.
