Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), a Deemed to be University, Girinagar, Pune-411025, has invited applications for admission to its Ph.D. programmes – July 2025 Batch under various sponsored categories.

Applications have been invited in the categories of Ministry of Defence (MoD) Sponsored/Self-Sponsored (DRDO, Tri-Services), Industry Sponsored/Industry Self-Sponsored, and Other R&D Govt. Organisations.

Details of vacancies in different departments/schools for admission to the Ph.D. programme July 2025 are as follows: Metallurgical and Materials Engg.- 8, Computer Science & Engineering- 8, Applied Mathematics- 3; Applied Chemistry- 2; Electronics Engineering- 12, Mechanical Engineering- 11, School of Robotics-1; Technology Management- 4; School of Energy & Environmental Systems- 3.

Those applying for the Ph.D. programme will be given the opportunity to opt for joint supervision in the Ph.D. programme with the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), or CSIR – Central Scientific Instruments Organisations (CSIR-CSIO) Chandigarh.

Eligibility for External Part-Time Research Scholar: The applicant should have passed the qualifying examination, securing at least 55% marks or equivalent CGPA/DGPA. A relaxation of 5 % of marks may be allowed for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy-layer)/PWD (Divyang) categories.

The qualifying degrees are: (a) Master of Engineering/Master of Technology/equivalent for Ph.D. in Engineering/Science, (b) Master in Science (M.Sc./equivalent) for Ph.D. in Science (c) BE/B.Tech with 10 years of research/industrial experience for Ph.D. in Engineering/Science (d) For Dept. of Technology Management: (i) ME/M.Tech/MBA in relevant discipline. (Science/Engineering/Management) (ii) BE/B.Tech with 10 years of research/industrial experience

A person sponsored as a part-time candidate by a government department/public sector undertaking/R&D, with at least five years of relevant experience, shall work for his/her Ph.D. in his/her parent organisation, fulfilling the residency period requirement as per Rules & Regulations for the Award of the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy – 2016. The candidate is required to submit an NOC, sponsorship and work experience certificate from the parent organisation.

Project staff from DRDO Laboratories & DIAT [JRF/SRF/RA] working under sponsored projects may be allowed to register for a PhD, subject to fulfilling eligibility criteria and/or qualified GATE/NET examinations. After completion of the project, if the student is qualified in GATE/NET or any other national exams, etc., he/she may be eligible for the DIAT fellowship as per DIAT rules.

A duly filled-in application in the prescribed proforma may be forwarded to the Joint Registrar (Academics), DIAT (DU), Girinagar, Pune-411025 so as to reach on or before 15th May 2025.

Admission to Ph.D. will be based on the performance in the entrance exam (written test) conducted by the concerned department/school followed by a personal interview.

The written test/interview will be on 13th June 2025. The programme is expected to commence in the 1st week of July 2025.
