Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI), a Deemed-to-be-University, has invited applications for admission to its Master of Fine Arts (MFA) programmes in Cinema and in Electronic and Digital Media, offered with various specialisations, for the academic year 2025. Admissions will be conducted through the SRFTI Entrance Test 2025. Candidates admitted will be enrolled in the MFA degree programmes under the SRFTI Deemed to be University.

The Film Wing of SRFTI offers the Master of Fine Arts in Cinema (MFA–Cinema) (1-Year Bridge Programme + 2-Year MFA) with the following specialisations: (i) Animation Cinema (ii) Cinematography (iii) Direction & Screenplay Writing (iv) Film Editing (v) Producing for Film and Television (vi) Sound Recording & Design Electronic and Digital Media (EDM) Wing offers 2- year Master of Fine Arts in EDM (MFA–EDM) with the following specialisations: (i) Cinematography (ii) Direction and Producing (iii) Editing (iv) Management (v) Sound (vi) Writing Essential Qualification: (a) 1-year Bridge Programme + 2 year MFA in Cinema: Graduate in any discipline from a recognized university or equivalent. For Animation Cinema, candidates should have proficiency in drawing (b) 2-year MFA in Electronic & Digital Media: Graduate in any discipline from a recognised university or equivalent.

Admission Process: The admission process consists of a nationally administered Preliminary Written Selection Test, followed by a subsequent Final Selection Test, with each Test carrying 100 marks. Preliminary Selection Test will be held on 10th August 2025. It may be conducted at Kolkata, Agartala, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Prayagraj, Jaipur, Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Imphal, Ranchi, Bhopal and Ahmedabad. The Final Selection Test will be conducted in physical mode at the SRFTI campus, Kolkata. Depending on the specialisation, the test will be held in the Morning session or the afternoon. Session.

The Preliminary Selection Test will be of 2 hours and will have MCQs. The question paper is divided into two parts, carrying 50 marks each. Part A will be the General Aptitude Test, and Part B the Common Subject Area Test.

On the basis of performances in the Stage 1 Preliminary Selection Test, the list of short-listed candidates for the Stage 2 Final Selection Test will be announced. Stage-2 Final Selection Test will be an Assessment-Written and/or Practical and/or Interaction, etc. The final merit list for admission will be prepared based on 20% marks of Stage-1 Preliminary Selection Test and 80% marks of Stage 2 Final Selection Test, subject to qualifying Medical Test.

There will be two groups and in each group, programmes will be clubbed as follows: (a) Group – A: (i) Cinematography for Film and Cinematography for EDM (ii) Sound Recording & Design for Film and Sound for EDM (iii) Direction & Screenplay Writing for Film, Direction & Producing for EDM and Writing for EDM (b) Group – B: (i) Producing for Film & Television and EDM Management (ii) Editing for Film and Editing for EDM (iii) Animation Cinema.

A candidate can apply for one choice of clubbed programmes from Group A and/or one choice of clubbed programmes from Group B. The Final Selection Tests for the clubbed programmes under Group A/Group B will be conducted jointly, in offline mode at the SRFTI campus, and a joint merit list will be published for each category of these clubbed programmes. In addition to these, separate merit lists will be released for all standalone programmes under Group B.

After the publication of all merit lists, shortlisted candidates will be invited to submit their preferences for the programmes they wish to join. The counselling and seat allocation process may be conducted online or using a dedicated software system, and all related information and updates will be published on the official SRFTI website.

Those awaiting the final result of the qualifying course, as well as those who have not received their graduation degree before the application date, can apply. They have to submit documents to prove their eligibility by the time of document verification during the Final Selection Test.

The window for admit card downloading will be open from 04 August to 9 August 2025. The result of the Stage 1 Preliminary Selection Test will be declared by the end of August 2025.
