Kerala opens 2025 admissions for part-time engineering diplomas at government and self-financing polytechnics

Directorate of Technical Education, Padmavilasom Road, Fort P.O., Thiruvananthapuram, has invited applications for admission to part-time/second-shift diploma programs in polytechnic colleges under SBTE for 2025-26.
The programmes are conducted only in the engineering/technology stream. The programmes shall be of 3 years (6 semesters) duration and shall be conducted from Monday to Saturday (6 days per week). The timing of the classes shall be as decided by the institution.
Colleges, branches, and seats: (i) Government Polytechnic College, Palakkad: Civil Engineering and Mechanical Engineering (50 seats each) (ii) Kerala Government Polytechnic College, Kozhikode: Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering (60 each) (iii) MADIN Polytechnic College, Melmuri, Malappuram: Electrical & Electronics Engineering (60)
Distribution of seats: The distribution of seats in the colleges in various categories for each programmme will be as follows: Government Polytechnic College: (i) Group A: Differently abled (persons with disabilities) with 2 years’ experience in the relevant field: 5% (ii) Group B: For employees of Government departments—10% (iii) Group C: Departmental Group for Employees from Boards/Corporations/Companies under State Government/Government-Aided Educational Institutions/State Quasi Government—10% (iv) Group D: Group for 2-year NCVT/SCVT, VHSE, and KGCE holders with 2 years’ experience in the relevant field—10% in the ratio 2-year NCVT/SCVT: VHSE: KGCE = 2:1:1 (v) Group E: Group for THSLC holders with 2 years’ experience in the relevant field—10% (vi) Group F: General Merit and Community Reservation—Remaining seats will be for those with other professional experience not mentioned in Groups A, B, C, D, and E or /without professional experience. However, preference shall be given to those with professional experience. The Group F seats shall be filled in the following manner: Open Merit – 50%, EWS – 10%, Community reservation – 40% [Category-wise distribution of seats in percentage is as follows: Ezhava - 9; Muslim - 8; Other Backward Hindu - 3; Latin Catholic and Anglo Indian - 3; Dheevara and related communities - 2; Viswakarma and related communities - 2; Kusavan and related communities - 1; Other Backward Christian - 1; Kudumbi - 1; Scheduled Castes - 8; Scheduled Tribes – 2].
Self-financing Colleges: Management Group—50% of the total seats. The remaining 50% seats are for the Government Group and is divided into Group A, Group B, Group C, Group D, Group E, and Group F.
Eligibility: Applicant should have passed SSLC/THSLC or equivalent examination, with English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, with eligibility for higher studies. For CBSE/ICSE candidates, the marks/grades obtained in science are considered in the place of physics and chemistry. Those seeking admission under the Group for 2-year NCVT/SCVT, VHSE, and KGCE holders with 2 years’ experience in the relevant field shall possess a 2-year NCVT/SCVT certificate or equivalent qualification after passing SSLC/THSLC or equivalent examination.
Age: The candidates should have completed a minimum of 18 years as of 1st June 2025.
Experience: Professional experience shall be the experience gained after attaining the required qualification in government, public sector undertakings (PSUs), public/private limited companies, registered small-scale industries, or educational institutions. Professional experience of self-employed persons shall be considered with the condition that they should have completed two years in entrepreneurship and the registration certificate of the respective firm shall be produced.
Selection: Admissions to these programmes are regulated on the basis of merit as assessed by giving weightage to the marks/grades obtained in the qualifying examination and professional experience of the applicants. Preference shall be given to the professional experience of candidates. The procedure for preparation of merit list is given in the Prospectus at https://polyadmission.org/pt/
Application: Application can be submitted online at https://polyadmission.org/pt/ after one-time registration there, which is mandatory for all candidates. Registration has to be done by remitting a fee of Rs. 400/- (Rs. 200/- for SC/ST candidates). After the one-time registration, the candidate has to apply to the institution where he/she desires to get admission. A single application can be used to apply for all the programmes in an institution. The applicant can exercise options for any number of programmes offered in that institution in the application form.
Separate applications are required to be submitted for admission to various institutions. The selection of candidates shall be done institution-wise. If a candidate wishes to apply to the management group of an aided/self-financing polytechnic college, he/she has to submit a separate online application to the institution where he/she desires to take admission.
One-time registration fee remittance and online submission of the application have to be completed by 23.06.2025. The provisional rank list and provisional select list will be published at the respective polytechnic colleges on 26.06.2025. The last date of appeal on the list is 28.06.2025. The final rank list & select list will be released on 30.06.2025. The last date of admission based on the select list is 05.07.2025. Spot Admission (if there are vacant seats) will be conducted from 10.07.2025 to 15.07.2025. First semester classes commence on 23.07.2025. Admission closes on 14.08.2025.
