Ola Electric has rolled out the first unit of its Shakti residential energy storage system from its Tamil Nadu Gigafactory, marking a major milestone in India’s battery technology journey.

Krishnagiri (Tamil Nadu): Ola Electric has rolled out the first production unit of its new residential energy storage system ‘Shakti’ from its Gigafactory in Krishnagiri, marking a significant milestone in India’s transition towards indigenous battery technology and scaling of the 4680 Bharat Cell platform.
With the launch of Ola Shakti, the company has officially entered India’s Residential Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market, broadening its footprint beyond the electric vehicle sector. Ola Electric said the device will redefine how households, farms, and businesses in India store, manage, and consume electricity, positioning energy as a portable, on-demand resource for modern users.
Ola Electric Co-Founder and CEO Bhavish Aggarwal announced the development on X, stating that the company’s cell manufacturing business is rapidly scaling with full Indian R&D.
“Researched in India, Engineered in India, Made in India,” he said, highlighting the localisation push.
Developed and manufactured at the Ola Gigafactory, Shakti underscores the company’s focus on innovation, localisation, supply-chain resilience, and advanced manufacturing capabilities, backed by sustained investments in technology development, the company said.
According to Ola Electric, Shakti offers automotive-grade safety, high efficiency, and zero running and maintenance costs. Unlike traditional lead-acid inverters or diesel generators, the system delivers: 0 ms instant changeover, wide input voltage tolerance of 200V–240V, IP67-rated, spill-proof batteries and protection against dust, water, and harsh monsoon conditions
Built on Ola’s core technology platform, Shakti enables smart and automated energy management. Users will be able to monitor battery levels, track energy flow, analyse usage patterns, and receive actionable insights to optimise costs and power consumption in real time.
Powered by the indigenous 4680 Bharat Cell, Ola said Shakti is designed to make clean, decentralised, reliable, and affordable energy storage accessible to homes, farms, and businesses across India, supporting the country’s long-term goal of energy independence.
Ola Shakti will be available in four configurations: 1kW / 1.5kWh, 1kW / 3kWh, 3kW / 5.2kWh and 6kW / 9.1kWh.
The system can power air conditioners, refrigerators, induction cookers, farm pumps, and communication devices, with charging times as fast as two hours and backup support of up to 1.5 hours at full load.
Reservations for Ola Shakti are now open on the company’s website for ₹999, the company confirmed.
