Tokyo: The Japan Mobility Show, a major automobile and technology exhibition, was held in Tokyo with participation from more than 510 companies. Among the highlights was the Yamaha Motor booth, which drew attention for showcasing its groundbreaking innovations in AI-powered motorcycles and sustainable mobility.

Yamaha Motor’s CEO Motofumi Shitara said the company’s policy is to “create deep satisfaction and excitement.” He added that this philosophy has been “cultivated [by a] craftsman spirit in 70 years' experience.”

Speaking at the event, Shitara explained the company’s journey with its futuristic motorcycle concept: “Developing project of MOTOROiD started to research and prove new relation between human being and mobility. In 2017 MOTOROiD standed up by itself and accessed to the rider. In 2023 Yamaha introduced MOTOROiD2 to express vitality. 2 years passed developing team of MOTOROiD shows us next progress.”

The latest version, MOTOROiD λ (lambda), represents the third generation of Yamaha’s intelligent motorcycle series. It integrates AI technology that allows the machine to learn and adapt to a rider’s complex movements and behaviours, aiming to achieve true harmony between rider and machine.

According to Yamaha, the AI-powered MOTOROiD λ (lambda) is designed to support the rider’s actions in a way that “resembles the relation of horse and rider.”

Yamaha also unveiled its hydrogen-powered motorcycle, developed in collaboration with Toyota. After refueling with hydrogen, the bike can reportedly travel up to 100 kilometers with a top speed of 90 km/h, and has already passed exhaust regulations, paving the way for market release.

The company further introduced its “EV 3 Brothers” lineup — a trio of models including a pure electric motorcycle, a hybrid, and a plug-in hybrid — reflecting Yamaha’s commitment to future mobility trends.

A unique three-wheeled motorcycle was also showcased, featuring independent steering on the two front wheels for improved stability and smooth handling, promising riders both efficiency and excitement.

In addition, Yamaha demonstrated its work in personal mobility, including electric power-assisted bicycles and wheelchairs. A large-wheel wheelchair has been developed for rough terrain, while a smart wheelchair can be customised for both urban and suburban use.

Reaffirming the company’s philosophy, Motofumi Shitara said, “Yamaha Motor is the company to create satisfaction and excitement. We will continuously stimulate people's desire to enjoy.”

He concluded that Yamaha Motor’s evolution “will never stop to catch up necessities of social life and to pursue craftsman's mind.”ANI
