Sardines flood Kozhikode beach: Sea delivers a Sunday treat for visitors | WATCH

Kozhikode: Sunday morning brought an unexpected delight to visitors at Kozhikode beach. Many people came to the beach and left with small sacks and bags filled with sardines. As an unusual tide brought the fish ashore, families and children eagerly collected them along the seaside.
Initially, onlookers were surprised by the sight of sardines washing ashore. Most of the fish were spotted at Konad beach during a two-hour window from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The beach was bustling with activity, as it was a holiday and many people had come to enjoy the day.
After videos of the sardines reaching the shore went viral on social media, the area quickly filled with families and locals eager to collect the fish. As crowds grew, Elathur Coastal Police and Life Guards arrived to ensure safety, especially keeping small children away from the water.
During the months of September, October, and November, it is common for small fish like sardines to come close to shore. Fishermen use echo sounders and fish finders to track the fish, allowing them to bring their boats to the best spots. Sea rescue guard K Shaiju explained that as the boats come to shore, the fish often follow the tide, creating this rare opportunity for beachgoers.
