Balaramapuram toddler murder: Locals claim uncle took blame, mother to be questioned

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala: The murder of two-and-a-half-year-old Devendu has left the locals in shock, with conflicting statements from the family and the ongoing investigation. The police have questioned the child's grandmother and sister Poornendu as part of their inquiry.
Harikumar, the toddler's uncle, who confessed to the crime, was arrested and will be presented before a magistrate today. The police are set to collect more evidence today.
Harikumar’s confession has raised more questions, with locals claiming that he may have taken the blame for something others were involved in. While police have arrested Harikumar, they are still investigating whether the child's mother, Sreethu, was involved in the murder. At this stage, there is no direct evidence linking her to the crime, but the police are examining her WhatsApp chats with her brother and inconsistencies in her statements.
Locals suspect mother’s involvement
Despite no official charges against her, many locals believe that Sreethu was involved in the crime. According to them, Harikumar could not have taken the baby without Sreethu’s knowledge. This suspicion has led to further scrutiny of Sreethu’s role in the incident.
The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning when Sreethu reported her daughter missing. The police and locals conducted an extensive search for several hours, eventually finding the child's body in a well in the yard, after the fire force’s inspection. During questioning, Sreethu’s brother Harikumar confessed to the crime.
