Police believed that Harikumar alone was responsible for the murder. However, a detailed probe revealed that Sreethu was also involved

Thiruvananthapuram: In the case of the murder of a two-year-old girl who was thrown into a well at Balaramapuram, the child’s mother, Sreethu, has also been arrested. She too was involved in the crime. Earlier, Sreethu’s brother, Harikumar, had been arrested for killing the child.
The first accused, Harikumar, had reportedly given a statement against Sreethu as well. Following this, on Friday evening, Balaramapuram police took her into custody from Palakkad. Earlier, Sreethu had also been arrested in a financial fraud case, in which she allegedly cheated someone of Rs 10 lakh by promising to arrange a driver’s job in the Devaswom Board.
It was in January this year that Sreethu’s daughter, 2-year-old Devendhu, was found dead in a well at Balaramapuram. Initially, Sreethu had filed a complaint saying the child had gone missing from home. Later, during the search by locals and police, the body was found in the well. Investigation revealed that it was Harikumar, Sreethu’s brother, who committed the murder. Disturbing details emerged later — police found that Sreethu and Harikumar were in an illicit relationship, and the killing was carried out because the child stood in the way of this relationship.
WhatsApp chats between Harikumar and Sreethu confirmed their illicit ties. At first, police believed that Harikumar alone was responsible for the murder. However, a detailed probe revealed that Sreethu was also involved. Police allege that Harikumar committed the crime with Sreethu’s knowledge. With this, she too has been named accused and arrested.
