Thiruvananthapuram: A two-year-old girl was found dead in an abandoned well here in Balaramapuram. The child's body was found in a nearby well around 8 a.m. on Thursday.

The deceased identified as Devendu is the daughter of Sreetu and Sreejith. She was reported missing around 5:15 am on Thursday after she was last seen sleeping with her parents.

Following a complaint, a joint search operation was launched by the fire department and the police who found Devendu's body around 8 am in a nearby well.

As part of the investigation, the police have taken the child’s parents, Sreetu and Sreejith, as well as the mother’s brother, into custody. The cause of death remains unclear, and authorities are awaiting the postmortem report for further details.

In a strange twist, the family has claimed that a fire broke out in the room where the mother’s brother was sleeping and that after extinguishing the flames when the couple came back they found the child missing. Kovalam MLA M. Vincent, who is closely following the case, noted that there was a smell of kerosene in the room.

The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the child’s disappearance and death, with the postmortem report expected to provide crucial insights into the tragic incident.
