Thiruvananthapuram: The murder of a two-year-old girl, Devendu, who was tragically thrown into a well in Balaramapuram, has taken a dark turn with the involvement of an astrologer, Shankumugham Devidasan, now in police custody. Locals have raised suspicions about the possible use of witchcraft and black magic in the case. They allege pujas were held at Devidasan’s home even after midnight. The police are questioning him to investigate these claims further.
Devidasan, an astrologer, is said to have attracted many people from surrounding areas, especially elderly individuals seeking his astrological guidance. Neighbours have also alleged that Devidasan was involved in practices associated with witchcraft. He is described as a private person with little interaction with his neighbours, and it is known to have previously worked as a teacher at a tutorial college.

Police sources suggest that there may be a connection between witchcraft and the murder of Devendu. Reports indicate that Devidasan was the guru of the child’s mother, Sreethu and that his teachings could be linked to the tragic incident. The police are investigating whether there is a connection between Devidasan and the murder to clarify these suspicions.
In a twist, the police have also arrested Harikumar, who is said to have previously assisted an astrologer similar to Devidasan. This has led to questions about whether Harikumar was helping Devidasan in his practices.
Investigators have also uncovered that Sreethu, the murdered child’s mother, had been attending religious pujas and spiritual events. Authorities are looking into whether Devidasan had any influence over Sreethu’s decision to cut her hair, as well as any potential links to beliefs that could have influenced the murder.
Devendu, the daughter of Sreethu and Sreejith, a couple living in a rented house in Kottukalkonam, Balaramapuram, was found dead in a well located in the backyard of their residence on Thursday. Sreethu initially informed neighbours that her child had gone missing while she was asleep. After an extensive search by the locals and the police, the fire department found the child’s body in the well.
Police took the 2-year-old's family to the station for questioning. During the investigation, Sreethu's brother Harikumar confessed to the crime, further raising questions about the motivations behind the tragic event and the possible involvement of occult practices.
